WhatsApp Green Tick: How to Get the Official Business Badge
Business verification vs. official business account, notability requirements, documents, and what to do after a rejection.
Two different things get confused constantly: Meta Business Verification (mandatory, document-based) and the Official Business Account green tick (optional, notability-based).
Step 1 — Meta Business Verification
Required to lift messaging limits. In your Business Portfolio → Security Centre, submit:
- Certificate of incorporation / GST certificate / Udyam registration
- A utility bill or bank statement showing the legal name and address
- A business phone number and website on the same domain as your email
Common failure: the name on the document differs by one word from the name on the portfolio. Make them byte-identical.
Step 2 — Apply for the green tick
Eligibility is judged on notability: recent coverage of your brand in credible news sources, not paid press releases. Meta looks for organic mentions in reputable publications within the last few months.
Requirements in practice:
- Business verified ✔
- Display name matches the brand people search for ✔
- WABA in good standing, quality rating green ✔
- Three or more independent news links about the brand ✔
If you're rejected
You can reapply after 30 days. Use that month to build real notability: launch coverage, funding or partnership announcements, a founder interview, industry award listings. Directory listings and sponsored posts do not count.
What the green tick actually changes
- Your brand name shows in the chat list even for people who haven't saved the number.
- The verified badge appears in the chat header and profile.
- Trust improves measurably on cold outreach — but it does not raise your messaging limit or reduce message cost.
Get verified first; treat the green tick as a PR project, not a support ticket.
